Alternatives in Motion Turns 27 Today!

We’re very excited to celebrate our 27th anniversary today! We know that these are unprecedented times and many of us feel weighed down by negativity. To battle this, we decided to highlight 27 positive things we’re looking forward to in 2020.

CELEBRATE WITH US

Now is the ideal time to do some spring cleaning in your home! Although Alternatives in Motion is not accepting donations currently, hold onto your mobility equipment and we will collect it once we open again. Contact coleen@aimgr.org for more information.

Looking for something to do during the stay home order? Our committees are still meeting virtually and we’re looking for new participants! Contact coleen@aimg.org if you’re interested.

The Wheel Run is Going Virtual

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Dear Alternatives in Motion Supporter,

Earlier this month we announced that the Wheel Run 5K was going to be postponed. After much consideration, we have decided to move the Wheel Run 5K to a virtual race on Saturday, July 11! While the race is not being held in person, we hope to make your experience just as fun and inspirational.

Because you have already purchased a ticket for the Wheel Run 5K, you have access to the virtual race. Engage with other supporters and runners in our Facebook group (the password to enter is WheelRun2020.) Check in to the group leading up to and on the day of the race for your chance to win some prizes from our sponsors!

We would also like to offer you a complimentary ticket to either AIM’s Fowling Fundraiser on October 28th OR a complimentary ticket to next year’s Wheel Run 5K. Please contact coleen@aimgr.org with your preference.

Thank you for your continued support!

We Will Move People Forward Again

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Dear Alternatives in Motion Supporter,

When shrouded by negativity, fear and anxiety, it is hard to see the silver lining. We’re deeply saddened to inform you that Alternatives in Motion is temporarily closing their doors. We feel as though this is our duty to help stop the spread of COVID-19. While we don’t know exactly when we will be able to provide mobility equipment to those in need again, there a few shining moments that have brought a smile to our face and we hope will bring a smile to yours:
  • We served a record-setting number of clients thus far. Over 100 clients were provided with refurbished mobility equipment.
  • We partnered with the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and donated four pediatric wheelchairs to be used by guests.
  • We hosted several pop-ups throughout the community to spread the word about AIM and provide services to those most affected.
We know we will move people forward again in the near future.
From our new home office,
The Alternatives in Motion Team

A Letter from our Executive Director

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Dear Alternatives in Motion Supporter,

At Alternatives in Motion we enhance independence through access to mobility equipment every day. During this unprecedented time, we’re taking every precaution to make sure our employees, clients, volunteers and staff are safe. We understand, more than ever, how it feels to be physically restricted and can only imagine what our clients are going through. It is vital for our clients to have the freedom to seek medical help right now. Our program focuses not just on the piece of equipment but the critical maintenance of the equipment by our trained staff.

Please feel free to reach out if you or someone you know needs support. We can be reached by phone at 616.493.2620 or by email at coleen@aimgr.org. I would like to thank everyone for their dedication and support, especially our Board of Directors, staff and volunteers.

Sincerely,
Coleen Davis – Executive Director

Moving People Forward.

It’s not just something we do – it’s a way of living. From seniors to small children, we’re changing lives by improving their quality of life through mobility equipment.

Volunteer Spotlight- Meet Steve

This week we want to do something a little different and feature one of our amazing volunteers Steve. Steve has helped us with more things than we can list, including helping us maintain equipment, helping our long time client Clement to the airport the last time he was in town, and recently building us a new ramp. We are so grateful for everything Steve, and all of our volunteers have done for us. We wouldn’t be where we are today without them!

Client Spotlight- Meet Frank

While a lot of times we donate actual mobility devices, sometimes we donate smaller parts or even just educate person with disabilities that need help. Recently one of our amazing staff members, Ron, helped out a new client who inherited a Power Wheel Chair from his family after his sister passed away. Frank spent $200 on new batteries for his chair, but realized he was unable to change them himself. His neighbor, a current client of ours, passed along our information and after a quick visit we were able to help him get the batteries installed. Its always great when our clients recommend us to others in need!

Did you see us on eightWest?

Last Friday, Coleen and special guest’s Tommy and his Mother had the opportunity to appear on eightWest. While on the show they were able to talk about our mission here at AIM as well as our newest fundraising effort. Currently, Alternatives in Motion is raising money to purchase a newer van to pick up and deliver mobility equipment and to bring to equipment maintenance pop-up events, which we are hoping to be able to host more of in the future. Our current 16 year old van enables us to do 90% of our work, however its current condition has left us desperate to find a newer one. If you would like to help us purchase this newer vehicle, please visit our Generosity page.

Coleen is On TV– Cecil Feature

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Moving People Forward.

It’s not just something we do- it’s a way of living. From seniors to small children, we’re changing lives by improving their quality of life through mobility equipment.

Client Spotlight– Meet Cecil!

Recently, we were able to help out Cecil, who has COPD. Cecil was ineligible to receive a new chair through his insurance since his current one was only 3 years old, however, all the tires on his chair were completely bald and the chair had a slew of other issues. Luckily, we were able to get him a new Pronto Power Chair, which should make getting around much easier. Cecil’s uses his chair to get back and forth to his local Walmart so he can buy his groceries, which is why his tires wore so quickly, however, without it, he would have no way to get there.

Coleen on Eight West

Our Executive Director Coleen will be on Eight West on Wood TV 8 this Friday at 11am. Tune in to hear about what we have going on here at Alternatives in Motion.

Funding our Van

While we are extremely grateful for the $170 donated so far, we still need to raise over $30,000 to afford the type of van we need to continue helping children like Dorval and others who we deliver equipment to. Without this van, we would be unable to help 90% of our clients.

Save the Date!

Our annual AIM High Endurance Awards are quickly approaching. This year they will be held on November 8th. If you would like to nominate someone for an award shoot us an email!
