Meet Trevor, Renew Mobility’s Newest Volunteer

As a third year medical student at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, Trevor was looking to become involved in working with people with disabilities. His exposure to Spinal Cord Injuries, through a friend of his earlier in his pre-med track, and his participation in Mary Free Bed’s Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports Clinic, directed his career goal to specialize in Physical Medicine and Rehab (PMR). And, to immerse himself further into this career path, he began searching for organizations that serve people with disabilities. Renew Mobility provided just that opportunity for him. Since then, Trevor has volunteered at both the Grand Rapids and Muskegon locations, cleaning mobility equipment and ensuring it is fit to go home with the client. Volunteering with Renew Mobility has provided insight for Trevor into the customization of equipment and clients’ unique seating needs, as well as into the high cost of equipment which makes it difficult for individuals without insurance to obtain the mobility equipment they desperately need. Specializing in PMR, Trevor is focused on providing the best quality of life for patients, not just merely diagnosing. We hope Renew Mobility gives him a glimpse into how practitioners can help provide that care.
